On Monday (22nd February), Keira Knightley made her first public appearance of 2016 at the London Fashion Week Erdem x Selfridges Wrap Party. High-quality images from the event have been added to the gallery.
Two-time Oscar nominee Keira Knightley is in early talks to play Russian empress Catherine the Great in a biopic that Barbra Streisand will direct for producer Gil Netter’s Netter Productions, TheWrap has exclusively learned.
Kristina Lauren Anderson wrote the script, which topped the 2014 Black List of Hollywood’s best unproduced screenplays.
Netter and representatives for Knightley did not respond to requests for comment.
Catherine the Great was born Sophia Augusta Fredericka to German royalty and took power when her husband was assassinated, ruling from 1762 to 1796 while modernizing the Russian empire.
The film will follow young Catherine, who was trapped in an abusive marriage with the heir of the Russian throne — a role that is currently being cast now.
Besides a beloved Black List script, “Catherine the Great” boasts significant pedigree between Netter, who has two Oscar nominations for producing “Life of Pi” and “The Blind Side,” and Streisand, who won a Golden Globe for directing “Yentl” and has two Oscars of her own. Streisand’s films have received a total of 14 Oscar nominations.
Variety and THR are reporting that Keira is in talks to join Will Smith in Collateral Beauty. Smith is starring alongside Helen Mirren, Edward Norton, Naomie Harris and Michael Pena, and will portray a successful New York advertising executive who experiences a personal tragedy and retreats from life entirely, prompting his colleagues to devise a drastic plan to help him recover.
One of the movie’s conceit concerns actors playing walking embodiments of Love, Time, and Death. Knightley would play Love.
The movie will hit theaters on Dec. 16, 2017, putting it in prime position for an awards season run. Production will start next month in New York.
Empire are currently reporting that Keira Knightley has signed onto a new biopic “Colette”, which looks at the life of famous French writer Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette.
Before the likes of Madonna and Cher earned fame with just one name, there was French writer Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette, who went by the single moniker Colette. Now Still Alice co-director Wash Westmoreland is preparing a biopic of her, and has Keira Knightley close to a deal to star.
Westmoreland wrote the film with his late husband and fellow Alice writer/director Richard Glatzer and will be calling the shots. The biopic will focus on Colette’s marriage to celebrated Parisian scribe Willy Gauthier-Villars, who was 14 years older than his wife when they married in 1893 and one of the most notorious libertines in Paris. During their time together, he introduced her to some of the more avant-garde circles and encouraged both her literary prowess and her love for women. After their separation in 1906, her writing career truly took off and she became known for works such as Gigi, Cheri and the Claudine series of books. A mime, an actress and a journalist at various points in her career, she was nominated for the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1948.
You can see why the filmmakers and now Knightley might be attracted to the story, and it has the backing of Bold Films and HanWay Films, the latter of which worked on Carol.Pam Koffler, Christine Vachon, Elizabeth Karlsen and Empire video blog stalwart Stephen Woolley are all on board to produce, and Westmoreland is scheduled to start shooting this May in Budapest.
